Diane has been handling administrative duties in Dr. Rocky’s office for over ten years. She brings a wealth of experience to the team not only in the dental field, but also in the areas of health insurance benefits and customer service having worked as a supervisor for several years at one of BC’s largest health insurance providers.
Diane was born in Steveston when it was still mostly a fishing village. She grew up playing around the daffodil fields, farms and cannery houses where now there are numerous condos, townhouses and heritage style homes. Her earliest “career” while still a student, was as a “slimer” gutting fish at Phoenix Cannery for the summer. Although she is now a resident of the Sunshine Coast she maintains her ties to the Steveston community, through her long time network of family and friends and of course her work at Dr. Rocky’s office. If you have a dental question/concern Diane invites you to drop by the office where she will be more than happy to arrange an appointment, straighten out an insurance issue, take a payment, and/or discuss your most recent vacation; kids/grandkids; or reminisce about the way Steveston was and share experiences of how it is now!
Outside of work Diane enjoys walking, cycling, working out at her local gym, travelling with her husband and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Sandra completed the Certified Dental Assisting program at Okanagan College in 1986. Born and raised in the Kootenays, she has been working in dentistry in the Lower Mainland for over 20 years; including over 10 years in a combination of children’s and orthodontic dental offices as well as Public Health. She has been with Dr. Rocky for five years and has found her varied dental experiences have kept her enthusiasm and interest in the profession high. Sandra now works more at the front desk doing reception/administration duties, although her flexibility allows her to also help with assisting and clinical tasks when needed, as well as with children’s recare appointments after school. Sandra is the one who knows where everything is, when it needs to be reordered, who needs help when running late, and generally keeps us on track and informed.
When not in the office, Sandra enjoys living in the Steveston area with her daughters and their dog, and together, partaking of the many outdoor activities the area has to offer.
Although the newest staff member, Shelley has felt welcomed and truly appreciates being a part of Dr Rocky’s team. Now living in Surrey, she grew up in Richmond (her mother worked for 25 yrs at BC Packers!) and feels like she is at home in this office. Shelley brings over twenty-five years of caring CDA experience and has found the friendliness of Dr. Rocky and her team is reflected in the wonderful patients of this practice. She enthusiastically participates in dental courses, seminars, study groups and conferences to keep up to date with current dental knowledge. Shelley’s gardening expertise is responsible for the amazing upgrade in quality of the flower arrangements outside our operatory windows, and she will gladly trade gardening secrets with anyone who mentions an interest.
When not working as a CDA, Shelley enjoys her church activities, travelling with her family, and cooking for her friends and neighbours. Gardening, exercising, and antiquing take up any spare time left. She has been married for 25 years to the same wonderful man, and is the proud mother of a lovely daughter.
Susie was born a dental hygienist which explains why she’s been at it for so long. She graduated from UBC in 1974 in the same Dental Hygiene Class as Dr. Rocky. Together they made quite a pair as Dr. Gale won the Clinical Award for outstanding clinical work and Susie won the Gold Medal for outstanding academic work. When Dr. Rocky went back to school to become a dentist, she offered the dental hygiene job she was leaving to Susie who had just come back from 6 months of travelling in Asia. While working in that job, Susie also did some clinical and classroom teaching at UBC in the Dental Hygiene Program and even occasionally went upstairs to try to teach the dental students a thing or two. The juggling of jobs and positions with the professional associations slowed to a crawl when the children were born and ramped up again when Susie came to work for Dr. Rocky in 1998. Involvement with Girl Guides and Boy Scouts, teaching the children to ski, camping, and time on the Sunshine Coast used up any free time left over. Now a full time hygienist once again, the commitment to improved overall health through improved oral hygiene still motivates Susie with each and every patient. She prefers a gentle approach to dental hygiene and never wants to be known as a nag! She looks forward to seeing you!
Colleen graduated from UBC in 1977, where she received a scholarship award given to the top student in both clinical and academic studies. She has worked in general and periodontal practices in the Lower Mainland as well as in Saskatchewan and Switzerland. She also did some teaching as a clinical instructor and lecturer in the programs of Dental Hygiene at UBC and VCC. Colleen has 20 years of experience as both an instructor in the Local Anaesthesia course at UBC and as a board examiner for the College. She is committed to providing a very high standard of thorough yet gentle care. She is most interested in motivating patients to meet their own oral and overall health goals. She especially enjoys establishing friendly, supportive relationships with the wonderful patients and fellow team members at Dr. Rocky’s practice.
Colleen is inspired by the beauty of nature, which is reflected in her painting and photography. She always has 2 or 3 books on the go. She loves swimming, ballroom dancing and walking the dog in our many beautiful parks
